The stark hand

The stark handIt is an artificial hand which is specially design for NASA. It moves easily and works like an electronic hand. The story behind the invention is like this:

A boy named Dave Vogt, when born has not his left hand by nature. A scientist Stark created an electronic hand for him and the hand has three knuckles (Which have a joint of a finger when the fist is closed). These knuckles can be bent according to the wish of the Vogt and he may catch the things easily. Interesting thing is that the Vogt may open all of his fingers freely by the moment of his shoulder that triggers a lever to extract. This artificial hand is really magical, because the Vogt may grip an egg with politeness and as well as drag a heavy chair.

When Vogt used this hand a ball is thrown towards him, he caught the ball with his artificial hand and certified that he is no more disabled and may do his work like a normal person.

A company named Edison Nation helps the inventors to develop their ideas selected the electronic hand for commercial production.

Dynamic eye sunglasses

Inventor: Chris Mullin

Dynamic eye sunglassesWhen a doctor Chris Mullin used to go to his laboratory 35 miles away from his house, the sunrays directly hit his eyes. The high penetrating rays cause headaches and give him trouble to see properly. Thus he decided to make a sunglass that may block the sunrays and protect his eyes. In 2002 he got a chance to work over his idea.

As lens material, he used a liquid crystal. The liquid crystal doesn’t give any obstruction to see through as a sunglass lens. Then he added a sensor on the bridge of the nose which finds limelight and gives a signal to a microcontroller attached nearby. The microcontroller reacts and gives instruction to the liquid-crystal lens to produce a 6 mm black square in front of the eyes to block the limelight. Surprisingly the square moves with the glass wearer to block the source of limelight at all the angles, but still gives a gap on the surroundings to let see properly.

Mullin is now developing an elastically plastic-based LCD, so that the product may be lighter and damage proof to sale in market on commercial scale.

The U.S Air Force has appreciated Mullin work and has funded in his project. Now he is working on developing a sunglass for soldiers & fighter pilots. Mullin claims that troops may go in high-noon sun onto the other place without any harm in illumination. The sight of the sunglass wearer will not be damaged. They may be able to see at the very moment after walking into sun. The scientist doctor making a plan to sell the idea to any of the big manufacturer of sunglass, so that they produce this Dynamic Eye shades commercially.

Now OLEDs! Is coming

Now OLEDs! Is coming

The flexible organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) has been developed, which may lead to a television as thin as common magazine and so much flexible that it may be roll as a sheet of paper!

OLEDs have a thin layer of light producing organic molecules coated on a glass surface which gives out light when an electric supply is given to it. Scientists are trying to make the television screen of such materials. It will be interesting to know that the screens made of this material do not need back light and have a nice black/white contrast than liquid crystal. A very much wide television of this material will consume less electricity in comparison to the normal smaller televisions.

The screen made of OLEDs material can be printed onto flexible surface by using an ink jet printer. In this way the total cost will be reduced than the liquid crystal screens.

If OLEDS may be printed on textiles, they may lead to illuminated dresses which will give out different changing shades of light. The dresses will be supplied electrical power by small batteries that may be put in pockets. A big change may be expected in electronics and textile as well if the material is available in the market. OLEDs can enlighten electronic displays on carpets, TVs, textiles, and curtain. The ladies of future will surely shine and sparkle with the help of this material.

Mending a broken heart!

This has been detected that when anybody face a heart attack, he receives a heavy damage. The tissues of the affected area of the heart may die. It is also a fact that damage tissues can not be mending. However efforts are going on in this regard to use stem cells for repair of the damaged areas.

Recently the engineers of Brown University are working with scientists of India, have developed a patch made of carbon nanofibers to repair the damaged areas after heart attack. Surprisingly this patch produced by two countries scientists provides flexibility, so that it may expand and contract accordingly with the users’ heart.

When this patch is covered over the damaged tissues, the electrical signals may be transmitted through it, because it is a best conductor of electricity. It is seeded with heart cells which improved very fast on the patch, with the growth of neurons.

Quickly charged batteries

When a researcher observed that the electrically charged batteries take very much time, hence produce a problem. He solved this problem by refilling the batteries with the old charged battery fluid.

The fluid of discharged battery will be pumped out and newly charged fluid may be filled in no time. The use of these new batteries will be better in comparison to the heavy and expensive batteries. The new batteries will be lighter and cheaper, because a new liquid has been produced which is more affective than the old batteries.

Odd & ugly scars

Odd & ugly scarsWhen anybody faces an accident, after healing he faces scars on his or her body. Particularly the face scars give an odd looking. It is because, the skin on the sides of the wound starts to pull apart, and the support by fibrous joints no longer there.

As a result the scars formed around the wound due to the tissues. Nobody wants these scars due to oddness and ugliness.

The problem has overcome by the researchers of Stanford University. They developed a new type of dressing that didn’t allow the wounds to stress mechanically. This nasty element formed the scars.

The researchers which produced this dressing are made of a thin layer of elastic silicone which is pressed over the wound after the removal of fibrous joint. The magical plastic layer begins to contract evenly within proper time and presses the edges of the wound all together. The plastic layer didn’t allow the edges to pull apart. Thus there appears no scar.

Controlling of temperature after blood loss

Controlling of temperature after blood lossThe soldiers took part in a battle and scarifies for their country, give their life due to the loss of blood. In medical terminology it is called “Hypothermia”, in this condition the temperature of the body falls low and due to the loss of blood they face death.

The students of New Jersey institute trying to develop a new kind of device which will help soldiers who fought in battle fields. The device can prevent the happening of hypothermia by heating the blood artificially till medical aid could provide. At this time by this device researchers are raising body temperature after blood loss. The condition of the injured person become stable after 16 hours to raise the temperature to a require level.

This device could work in a shorter period of only 4 hours and pass warm air to the lungs of injured person. When the blood supply passes from the lungs, the body temperature rises to safe levels.

Bacteria producing electricity

Bacteria producing electricitySurely he did magic who produce electricity from bacteria who was a professor of botany in the University of Durham in UK before a century. The basic of this magic is biological fuel cells which have been investigated for production of electricity.

The professor’s work was developed by a Japanese scientist in 1976. Microbial fuel cells have an anode and a cathode chamber, while the electricity is produced by eating away of organic matter.

How the electricity is produced in not still understood. But a team of scientists at the University of Anglia discovered the real structure of bacterial proteins which produce the electrical current.

This structure is design by the nature that alleviates the apparent motion of electrons from the inner portion of bacterial cell to the outside atmosphere, hence causing the electrical current.

Take a hover bike for flying

hover bike for flyingYou know very well that people cross English Channel daily by hovercrafts.

These are the ships fly only two feet above the surface of water. Keeping in mind the same idea Australian craftsman Chris Malloy has developed a motor cycle and named it Hover bike that will fly several thousand feet above the ground.

The hover bike is design in this way that it can fly with a speed of 173 miles/ hour when flying in the air. This hover bike is made of carbon fiber and has 2 ducted spinning propellers. It is expected that we will be soon flying in this hover bike, because its first flight is taking place by August of this year.

Paper fabrics

Paper fabricsAn interesting and incredible fabric has been introduced in the market which is paper fabrics. By this product mobile telephones and electrical devices may be made by paper. The scientists of Carolina University found it possible to deposit conductive nano coatings on paper. You will be surprise to know that all kinds of such material can be used in electronic devices. The coatings are thousands of times thinner than a human hair, and are made up of inorganic materials. They can be coated on paper, cotton and on   polypropylene materials that are usually used for making daily used bags.

Calorie calculatorIf you are worried about how many calories you are going to consume in that slice of pizza, chocolate cake or fruits? A new invention may help you. After taking a picture of the edible with the new camera like invention, it gives a calorie read-out almost instantly. This device is called MealSnap, was developed by DailyBurn, a fitness social network that has created several other fitness and diet related inventions.

Within minutes of taking a picture of a meal and matching it to a database of some 500,000 food items, the device sends users an alert with a range of calories for the meal that was photographed. The database can quickly help identity the food, how many calories there are, proteins, fat, carbs, vitamins, whatever you may want to know. Users can then choose to share what they’ve eaten in any restaurant or hotel.

In past calorie counting was a very time consuming process, but the device make it easier to track the calories in food. Additionally, MealSnap can serve as a food diary, allowing users to keep a visual log of the meals they have eaten.

Green car1. Green car: Sandia national laboratory is trying to design a car that will run from carbon dioxide and sunrays. These two things will be used as fuel. The car will be multipurpose, because it will absorb carbon dioxide from the air, hence will clean the atmosphere. The system in the green car (cerium oxide system) will convert the carbon dioxide into carbon monoxide, and also convert the water into Hydrogen.

Bullet proof custard2. Bullet proof custard: The scientist of London has marketed a new kind of bullet proof jacket which will protect you from the bullets coming from the front. The experts used a secret chemical formula which is prepared by mixing an artificial fiber, so that a super armored protective jacket may be come into being. A sticky and thick pasted layer has been used in the inner side of jacket, so when a bullet hit the outer side of the jacket, the paste become thicker and neutralize the power effects of the bullet. The global defense and security company is designing it for the soldiers who will fight on the front lines. The researchers says that they are trying to use this secret chemical devise in less quantity, so that the jacket may not be heavy and the user feel uneasy to move.

The liquid named ‘Bullet proof custard’ with a reasoning that the molecules used in this paste became more thick and protective when hit by a bullet. The   theory based on this idea that when we warm the custard pudding it became thick. This latest technology may turn into a revolution soon, because the rulers all over the world may not be hit by any manic holding a gun in his hands.

Bladeless fan3. Bladeless fan: The manufacturer of this magical fan is an Australian named Sir James diets. His newly invented magical fan is on sale in U.K market. Astonishing, its demand is raising day by day. This blade less fan has a safer side that it may not give harm to the children, whereas it may be clean easily, due to the non-presence of the blades.

During 2008 and 2009 Australia has earned an amount of 9 millions and 19 millions pounds after selling this fan to the fans. Due to the extensive weather of summer demand of this blade less fan is going high in U.K. The business icons estimated that the gross income of this blade less fan may multiple two folds.

This new invented fan runs with a 40 watt supply motor. The holes the lower inlets take in the room air and put it out rapidly from the upper out lets. The upper direction of out lets may be turned in the required angles, so that the other parts of the room may be cooled. The amount of exit air may be controlled by a value. This fan provides more fooling than an ordinary fan. In U.K its price is 190 pounds. The most interesting phenomenon is that the fan is still not marketed in Australia, which is its origin.

Eye lie detector4. Eye lie detector: The researchers in Lake salt university invented a lie detector which will catch the lies of a culprit by the movements of his eyes. The movements of eyes will reflect that when and where the culprit is bluffing and telling a lie. It is a fact that eyes didn’t concentrate and focus on a particular point when anybody tells a lie. Hence this eye lie detector will catch these movements and reveal the untruth.
