Solar PowerA great scientist claims that the solar energy will lead entirely in future. That will be a great need of this planet in the next coming 20 years. Now we could imagine our self the importance of this valuable energy, because we are now in disaster and facing energy crises. The reservoirs of gas, coal and petroleum is going to be empty. At last we have to search the substitute of it.

There is 10,000 times more sunlight than we need to meet 100 percent of our energy needs and the technology needed for collecting and storing it is about to emerge as the field of solar energy is going to advance.

Solar to compete in the next five years

At this time we have not any big planning for accumulating the solar and wind energy. But after seeing the statics of the future, we are serious and doing a valuable research and planning to store these energies. At present supply about 1 percent of the world’s energy needs, but advances in technology are about to expand with the introduction of nano-engineered materials for solar panel  making them more efficient, lighter and easier to install and take the demanding  benefits.

The researchers said that we are not that far away from a tipping point where energy from solar will be economically competitive with fossil fuels and   it could happen in the next 5 years.

In this connection other technologies which will be helpful are solar concentrators, made of huge mirrors that absorb very large amount of sunlight onto a small steam turbine. The energy can be stored by using nano-engineered fuel cells which will be available in the market soon.

You could create hydrogen or hydrogen-based fuels from the energy produced by solar panels and then use that to create for fuel cells.

Other troublesome challenges

Experts think that facing the energy challenge and the other troublesome challenges of the 21st century is simply important to our survival on this planet. Other challenges are:

1-         To clean water.

2-         Producing better medicines.

3-         Securing cyberspace.

4-         Improvement in practical reality.

The big and useful inventions gave us the green revolution that increased the production of food   as world population grew. The distribution of safe water and electricity, improved health generated an upgraded standard of living for everyone.

However, now the world faces some dark results of these advancements which are the threat of a security disaster, if nuclear and biological weapons fall into the wrong and fanatic hands.

More solutions to upcoming challenges

Other tech solutions for the new century’s big challenges include:

1-         Proper monitoring of nuclear weapons components to prevent them from getting in the hands of fanatic.

2-         Make an advance in rapid responses to possible bio-weapons attacks.

3-         Advances in genetic engineering to address the problem of drug-resistant viruses and bacteria, and to create personalized medicine.

4-         Purification of water to meet the demand of shortage of drinking healthy water.

The policy which will be run in the 21st century challenges plan, reveal a more enlightened understanding of role of science and technology in general. This idea is being developed in the context of a globalized world, even though the proposals have been developed in world.

Although we invented such scanners that detect the explosive, but still the planes blast in the air with a bloom. Big buildings like twin towers are shattering into small pieces. For detecting explosive we trained dogs, and they are fulfilling their duties nicely due to their sensitive smell power.

A new research has been made in this field that mouse have more sensitive nose rather than a dog. If a dog has 756 olfactory receptor genes, where as the mouse have 1,120 such genes. Then we could conclude our self that mice are very much sensitive in smelling.

An Israeli based company has created a scanner that will be different from the present body scanner. The newly created scanner has not x-ray device, but have an enclosure with mouse in it. The working mouse is trained to smell 8 kinds of explosives. When a culprit carrying such explosive will pass under the scanner the smell of explosive make the mouse miserable, react and will run away from the place to the adjoining chamber, thus trigger an alarm.

Asthma detectorEvery body know this fact that asthma gives a horrible pain when attacks to any person. Surely if the person will know about this attack earlier or at least one day before, he may mange for its prevention.

World renowned company Siemens has created a device that is a breath detector. This handy device tells the person who is going to be the victim of asthma at least one day before. In the mean time the person may take the proper medicine and prevent the disease.

It has been detected that the level of nitrogen oxide increases before one day when asthma attacks on our body. This detector may find nitric oxide at very low level. As the inflammation will be greater the higher will be the level of nitric oxide, hence will indicate the attack of disease. Doctors can suggest the medicine in this matter.

Odd & ugly scarsWhen anybody faces an accident, after healing he faces scars on his or her body. Particularly the face scars give an odd looking. It is because, the skin on the sides of the wound starts to pull apart, and the support by fibrous joints no longer there.

As a result the scars formed around the wound due to the tissues. Nobody wants these scars due to oddness and ugliness.

The problem has overcome by the researchers of Stanford University. They developed a new type of dressing that didn’t allow the wounds to stress mechanically. This nasty element formed the scars.

The researchers which produced this dressing are made of a thin layer of elastic silicone which is pressed over the wound after the removal of fibrous joint. The magical plastic layer begins to contract evenly within proper time and presses the edges of the wound all together. The plastic layer didn’t allow the edges to pull apart. Thus there appears no scar.

The students of New Jersey institute trying to develop a new kind of device which will help soldiers who fought in battle fields. The device can prevent the happening of hypothermia by heating the blood artificially till medical aid could provide. At this time by this device researchers are raising body temperature after blood loss. The condition of the injured person become stable after 16 hours to raise the temperature to a require level.

This device could work in a shorter period of only 4 hours and pass warm air to the lungs of injured person. When the blood supply passes from the lungs, the body temperature rises to safe levels.

The professor’s work was developed by a Japanese scientist in 1976. Microbial fuel cells have an anode and a cathode chamber, while the electricity is produced by eating away of organic matter.

How the electricity is produced in not still understood. But a team of scientists at the University of Anglia discovered the real structure of bacterial proteins which produce the electrical current.

This structure is design by the nature that alleviates the apparent motion of electrons from the inner portion of bacterial cell to the outside atmosphere, hence causing the electrical current.

These are the ships fly only two feet above the surface of water. Keeping in mind the same idea Australian craftsman Chris Malloy has developed a motor cycle and named it Hover bike that will fly several thousand feet above the ground.

The hover bike is design in this way that it can fly with a speed of 173 miles/ hour when flying in the air. This hover bike is made of carbon fiber and has 2 ducted spinning propellers. It is expected that we will be soon flying in this hover bike, because its first flight is taking place by August of this year.

They can be coated on paper, cotton and on   polypropylene materials that are usually used for making daily used bags.

After taking a picture of the edible with the new camera like invention, it gives a calorie read-out almost instantly. This device is called MealSnap, was developed by DailyBurn, a fitness social network that has created several other fitness and diet related inventions.

Within minutes of taking a picture of a meal and matching it to a database of some 500,000 food items, the device sends users an alert with a range of calories for the meal that was photographed. The database can quickly help identity the food, how many calories there are, proteins, fat, carbs, vitamins, whatever you may want to know. Users can then choose to share what they’ve eaten in any restaurant or hotel.

In past calorie counting was a very time consuming process, but the device make it easier to track the calories in food. Additionally, MealSnap can serve as a food diary, allowing users to keep a visual log of the meals they have eaten.

Now George Whitesides and his helping hands are working on this theory that the soot particles of the flame can be charged which destabilize the flames and extinguish the fire. If beams of electricity are fired at flames, the flames quickly go out, as if water had been sprayed over them. A 600 watt amplifier connected to a wand is used to deliver the electrical beams. On the basis of the work carried out, backpacks are being developed for firemen who could be shooting electricity beams at the fires. In the same way, buildings can be fitted with electricity amplifiers on roofs, instead of water spraying, to extinguish fires. Such a system could save huge amounts of water wasted in extinguishing fires and avoid damage to buildings and contents.

Poor bio fuel is a strong energy

The material which could be taken through photosynthetic processes, they can be referred to solar energy source. In March 2011, aviation made a history, when an F-22 Raptor fighter jet aircraft flew using the bio fuel taken from mustard called ‘camelina’ mixed with a ratio of 1:1 with conventional jet fuel. The fighter aircraft said to be successful when it flew at the speed of 50 per cent grater than the speed of sound. The same experiment has been done from KLM and Japan airlines; they also used bio fuel of camelina in their aircrafts and it successfully. Camelina is widely grown in USA, usually as a formal crop. Bio fuel is cheaper than the conventional fuel, because the camelina is about $ 70/ barrel, whereas the conventional fuels are selling in market above $100/ barrel. How interesting!

This will be a device that could use sunlight to split water into two elements, hydrogen and oxygen. The produced hydrogen can be stored in fuel cells and will be used for the production of energy. What will be role of artificial leaves? The natural leaves with algae and bacteria are able to carry out photosynthesis. By this process the carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere, with the help of sunlight energy produce compounds like sugars. Oxygen is released as a by-product of the reaction, this maintains the level of oxygen in the atmosphere and removes carbon dioxide from it and reduce the global warming, and provides food which is necessary for our survival. The yearly rate of energy taken by the process of photosynthesis is about 100 terawatts, which is about six times the yearly power consumption on our planet. In US the professor of Chemistry with his co-workers, now have developed a material which is thinner than a leaf and contains a couple of cheap catalysts that serves the purpose. If this leaf is placed on a gallon of water under sunlight and connected to a fuel cell; it can supply so much electricity which may be enough for a small household, for a day. The Scientists say that these types of leaves can produce 10 times more energy than a natural leaf.

It is possible now for a disabled person to move his wheel chair or drive cars controlled by his own thoughts and his own brain. Two biomedical engineering students, of University in Toronto have developed an artificial arm that can be controlled by thought. This artificial arm will be powered by compressed air; this is easy to form and avoids the need of surgery that is necessary to fit artificial arm. The disabled person which will use this arm may send signals to it through a skull cap. This cap has sensors which ‘feels’ The change in blood flow in the brain, it Happen when the thought command is released. These signals are sent to a microprocessor in the arm which already has stored shapes for signals such as forward, backward, up and down. The microprocessor matches these signals coming from the brain with those already stored shapes in it for different movements and moves according to it.

Amazing plastic

How wonderful it is that, when you are driving and sitting on a car seat made of bananas, pineapples and coconuts? Why not as after all this is the amazing world of fantastic inventions. Most plastics are normally made from chemical reactions of particular chemicals. These chemicals derived from petroleum or natural gas. A group of researchers at the University of Brazil have now found that a new kind of plastic can be manufactured from materials such as pineapple stems, banana plants and coconut fibers. That is incredible!

This excellent type of material is prepared from these sources a pound of which can be used to prepare a hundred pounds of magical plastic. The resulting material is expected to be used in manufacture of plastics used in the automobile industry.

Irregularities in the blood flow caused by clots in blood vessels can be detected by conclusion of the resulting patterns. Strokes show a major cause of death all over the world and early detection of the problem is difficult. The sonar device will be a best tool for the physician to detect the nature of the stroke and the medication which necessary to overcome the problem.
